This crochet fleece blanket uses a simple repeating double crochet stitch, which helps you “feel” for your stitches since you are not able to see exactly where to place your hook.  The alternating stripe pattern looks great no matter which way you turn your blanket for display.  This pattern works up fast, making this a quick project perfect for gifting that will be sure to be a showstopper!

PATTERN NOTES:

  • There is no wrong side or right side to this blanket.
  • The ch 2 turning chain does NOT count as a stitch.
  • Using jumbo fleecy yarn can be tricky as you are not able to see exactly where to place your hook; you will need to feel for your next stitch as you work along your row.  The larger hook size will help with this, and fluffy yarn is more forgiving if you make mistakes.
  • Placing a stitch marker in the first stitch of every row worked will help to determine where you need to place your last stitch on any given row.
  • The pattern is worked by repeating one row of double crochet and switching colors at the end of the indicated row before turning.
  • The shorter horizontal panel is worked first with alternating cream and grey stripes at the bottom, and then grey yarn is joined at the bottom corner and vertical rows are worked into the ends of the rows to create the long stripe up the side.

THE PATTERN:

Beginning with Color A, ch 50.

Row 1:  dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each chain across, turn.  (48)

Row 2:  ch 2, dc in 1st st from hook and in each chain across, turn.  (48)

Row 3:  Repeat Row 2, switch to Color B.

Continue to repeat Row 2, changing to the indicated color at the end of the row for that section and before turning your work, as follows:

Row NumbersYarn ColorTotal Number of Rows Worked
Rows 4-6Color B3
Rows 7-9Color A3
Rows 10-12Color B3
Rows 13-36Color A24

After row 36 is worked, fasten off.

You will now begin to work the longer edge of your blanket with the same alternating stripe pattern.

Beginning with Color B, join yarn to the bottom edge of the first panel (bottom right corner of the first row of Color A that you worked).

Row 1:  ch 2, dc into ends of rows, working approximately 2 dc for each row, turn. (72)

Row 2:  ch 2, dc in 1st st from hook and in each chain across, turn.  (72)

Row 3:  Repeat Row 2, switch to Color A

Continue to repeat Row 2, changing to the indicated color at the end of the row for that section and before turning your work, as follows:

Row NumbersYarn ColorTotal Number of Rows Worked
Rows 4-6Color A3
Rows 7-9Color B3
Rows 10-12Color A3

Fasten off and weave in your ends.  Get ready for some cozy nights, cuddled up under this crochet fleece blanket with a roaring fire and a good book!
